RIDGLEAND, Miss. (WLBT) – The Madison County Board of Supervisors voted 3-1 last week to move forward on a $48 million plan to build the area’s first conference center near Top Golf, alongside a 250-room resort hotel.
Not all supervisors supported the measure. One argued taxpayers should not be financing private development.
How the project would be funded
Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee said existing taxpayers will not bear the cost of the project.
“The taxpayers of Madison County will not be paying for this at all,” McGee said. “We’ve spent a lot of time with our financial advisors to be sure that the bonds that are going to be issued by the county will be paid off with income from the conference center and the hotel. Also, of course, the state and the city for a few years will be giving up our sales tax, and that will go against it also.”…
