Ordinance would do away with city Planning and Development Dept.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A Jackson city councilman says it’s time to place code enforcement under the Jackson Police Department.

On Tuesday, Ward Three Councilman Kenneth Stokes introduced an ordinance doing away with the Planning and Development Department, placing many of its divisions, including Building and Permits, and Planning and Zoning under JPD.

“People call today with a problem of housing or something like that. They tell them they have to call the Planning Department,” he said. “Certain divisions in the city need to go to police.”…
