JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A frontal boundary moving southward is triggering scattered storms through this evening, mainly across the southern half of the area.
Extreme heat and unstable air are creating conditions favorable for strong wind gusts with the storms, some reaching 58 mph or higher.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for southwest Mississippi, south of the Metro Jackson area, until 8 p.m. Storms will die down this evening, and little activity is expected overnight.
This weekend and next week
A northwest wind pattern will take over and continue through next week. The setup will keep the hottest temperatures concentrated over the southwest portions of the area, though temperatures are not expected to reach the most dangerous levels seen previously…
