JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson city officials will know by the end of the week whether it can use a portion of its general fund reserve to fund additional positions for the Jackson Fire Department.
Budget deliberations continued on Wednesday, with Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes proposing using about $2 million of the city’s $8 million to help JFD increase its ranks.
“That way we’ll have the money to do what needs to be done with the fire department, and we’ll meet our goal of having employees for this year,” he said. “But somewhere down the line, we’ve got to have a little more money for police, because the goal [has] got to be 350.”…
