The deaths of several Black people found hanging in different parts of the country in 2026 have drawn public attention and raised questions from grieving families and community members. Tasia Fortune

Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old mother of four, was found hanging from a tree behind an abandoned house in Jackson, Mississippi, on Aug. 3. Her death remains under investigation, and her family has continued to demand answers and transparency surrounding the circumstances.

The investigation took a significant turn when Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney said authorities were investigating Fortune’s death as a potential homicide. According to WLBT, a man named Terence Anderson was named as a person of interest in connection with Fortune’s death. He appeared in Jackson Municipal Court on Aug. 4 and was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
