Second chance pays off as Mississippi deer hunter bags enormous 160-class buck

For many hunters, it would seem like a hopeless situation; a giant buck in trail camera photos that never showed himself in daylight.

But after weeks of relentless hunting, a Mississippi deer hunter walked away with a trophy 13-point that unofficially gross-scored 164 2/8.

“I had pictures of this deer at the beginning of the season,” said Hunter Hamilton of Rankin County . “As soon as I got pictures of him, I started hunting him hard.

“I hunted him every weekend from morning to dark. I hunted him every evening after work.”

However, it didn’t seem to matter how hard he hunted. The buck would show up on camera late at night or in the early morning hours.

The same pattern continued for weeks until one day Hamilton had to break from his routine. His wife’s car needed an oil change, so Hamilton took it to a dealership for service. When Hamilton later checked his camera on his phone, he saw something that would dampen just about any hunter’s spirit. There was a photo of the buck during daylight.
