Www.wcbi.com – Allie Martin – 2024-01-27 14:09:41. SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Mental Health is providing Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) training to law enforcement officers statewide to help them deal with people experiencing mental health crises. Oxford Police Officer Roman Sones received the training and successfully used it to de-escalate a situation involving a person in distress. The training aims to teach officers how to effectively handle mental health crises and is mandated by House Bill 1222, which also provides funding for the training. The goal is to have all law enforcement officers trained in CIT by 2025, and the Oxford Police Department is ahead of the game with many of their officers already trained.
