Suspect injured in officer-involved shooting in Jackson after chase

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A suspect was injured during an officer-involved shooting after a chase in Jackson.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said the incident occurred on Sunday, January 28.

Capitol police said they attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Porter Street and University Boulevard around 4:00 p.m. Martin said the suspect led the officers on a brief chase before he got out of his vehicle on Winter Street.

According to Martin, the suspect exited with vehicle with a weapon, and officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect. The suspect was injured and taken to a local hospital.

Martin said the officers involved did not receive any serious physical injuries.

Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will investigate the shooting and will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
