Jackson man sentenced for trafficking drugs in Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A Jackson man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for trafficking controlled substances and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Madison County.

On September 30, 2023, a Madison police officer stopped a vehicle on Interstate 55. While explaining the traffic violation to the female driver, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The officer said Damarius Graham, 32, who was the passenger, was sitting on top of a firearm. Investigators said the firearm was reported stolen out of Starkville. Graham was also found to be in possession of marijuana.

During a search of the car, officers said they found a purple Crown Royal bag in the backseat that contained a large amount of what appeared to be cocaine.

Police said Graham had previously been convicted twice on felony offenses. The suspected drugs were sent to the Mississippi Crime Laboratory. After a forensic evaluation and testing, the substance was confirmed to be cocaine and weighed over 200 grams, leading to the indictment for aggravated trafficking in controlled substances.
