JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Officials at the Jackson Resource Center are working to provide housing for the homeless.
They plan to build a tiny home unit for those without a place to stay. The center was awarded 18-acres of land on Capers Avenue by the city in August 2024.

Putalamus White, the founder of the Jackson Resource Center, said she’s been developing the project for more than a decade.
“The one thing that we seem to be missing as we started down this road back in 2012 was housing and the need back then was great, and it’s only been building since then. So, this is not something that we just thought about overnight that, ‘Hey, we’re going to do the housing for those individuals who are experiencing homelessness.’ This has been in the making for 10 years. We’ve been trying to do projects like this for 10 years to house individuals, to take them off of the streets in Jackson,” said White.
Officials with the center plan to meet with the Jackson City Council next week to get approved funding for the project. If approved, the center plans to build 60 housing units.
