Man charged in fatal shooting on Ellis Avenue in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A man was arrested in connection to a homicide that happened on Ellis Avenue near Highway 80 in Jackson.

Deputy Chief Sequerna Banks said Syhee Phillips , 24, turned himself in to authorities at the Jackson Police Department (JPD) headquarters on Thursday, February 1.

Two teens wanted for fatal McComb shooting

The fatal shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26. Police said the two victims were inside of a black Lexus. The man died at the scene, and the woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The male victim was identified as 23-year-old Devaun Johnson.

Phillips was charged with murder, aggravated assault, shooting into an occupied vehicle, drive-by shooting and convicted felon in possession of a firearm in connection to the homicide.

He also had warrants for three counts of aggravated assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of auto theft.
