William “Polo” Edwards requests bond ahead of new trial

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – William “Polo” Edwards appeared in court on Tuesday and asked a judge to grant him bond.

Edwards was denied bond by Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Faye Peterson in October 2023 after a mistrial was declared in his case.

He was on trial for allegedly killing Better Men Society Founder Robert Davis inside Shadow Robinson’s Clinton home on May 1, 2022.

On Tuesday, Edwards asked Peterson for bond due to his financial troubles. Attorney Thomas Fortner will no longer represent Edwards due to lack of payment and his retirement.

Edwards said if he was granted bond, he would be able to work and earn money to pay attorney fees.

“Ankle monitors those obligations. I could go to work, provide for my family, and appear at court and do what I’m supposed to do, as well. But I have not been given that opportunity. I have not been given an opportunity to continue to work and to appear in this courtroom. So, I’m stuck with this situation. I’m not trying to be a burden to the court or the county,” he said.
