Community meeting held in Jackson over gas concerns

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Concerns about safety in the City of Jackson sparked a town hall meeting on Wednesday.

Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, held the town hall for the public to share their concerns and get answers to current problems related to water, crime and gas. Stokes brought in officials, including Jackson police, the Public Service commissioner and Atmos Energy to provide updates on the city’s safety.

Jackson neighbors encouraged to report gas leaks

“If you smell games, that’s going to say something about you can leave your home and get safe first and call Atmos. The Public Service Commission will regulate all utilities, and Atmos is one of the companies that we regulate. So, we’re making sure that we make sure they do this positively. And the same thing with the other companies, as well,” said Central District Public Service Commissioner De’Keither Stamps.

The commissioner also spoke on illegal digging, stating that there is an ongoing investigation to hold third parties accountable.
