Mississippi College (MC) will host an annual academic competition for high school students from February 22-23. The event, sponsored by the Mississippi State Department of Education and Educators Rising, aims to provide students with a better understanding of their post-high school options and offers scholarship funds for winners.
Jennifer Stafford, chair of the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership at MC, explained that the competition includes various academic contests. Students receive the guidelines for their chosen competition beforehand and may take tests, give presentations, or have their papers critiqued.
MC faculty, local teachers, retired educators, and businesspeople will judge the competition. Stafford highlighted the event’s goal of helping students make informed decisions about their future and expressed hope that it might encourage them to consider MC.
MC President Blake Thompson will welcome the students on the first day. On the second day, Michael Highfield, provost and executive vice president, and Michael Wright, dean of enrollment management, will greet the students. Judge Henry T. Wingate will deliver a keynote address in the afternoon, followed by an awards ceremony in the evening.
