Dixie National Parade arrives in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Rodeo Lovers young and old came out to kick off this year’s annual Dixie National Parade in Jackson.

Coming to the annual parade has grown to be a tradition for some, like Renee Dupree.

“My daughter, my granddaughter, my grandson, nieces, sister-in-law, and a bunch of friends. they’ve been doing it for years, many years,” Dupree said.

The parade usually commemorates the start of the final week of the Dixie National Rodeo season. For Lydia Stingley, a former livestock show contestant, participating runs in the family.

“So showing, I started showing when I was eight, I finished when I was 19. And my sister has shown and my brother has shown, but we’ve always done hogs market, goats, dairy, goats, dairy cows, sheep for a few years. So we’ve done all of it except for the horses. And so, it’s just a fun way to wrap up the end of the the season, I guess you would call it,” Stingley said.

Events happening this weekend in Mississippi: February 9-11

For others, like Brenisha Thomas, it is their first time.
