WellsFest is set to celebrate 40th anniversary. Here’s what to know

WellsFest, one of central Mississippi’s premier outdoor music and family festivals celebrates its 40th anniversary Saturday, Sept. 28, at Jamie Fowler Boyll Park in Jackson.

Festival Co-Chair Charles Araujo, who has been involved with WellsFest for over 20 years, said he expects at least 2,000 people to attend.

“We may have as many as 2,500 depending on the weather,” Araujo said.

The full day of music, food, and activities kicks off at 7 a.m. Saturday with the 2024 “Run 4 Recovery” presented by the nonprofit First Responders of Mississippi. The event will feature a 5K run, a 5K walk, and a “Fun Run” for children.

Registration fees range from $15 to $40 with all proceeds distributed to community charitable organizations.

The main festival gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the annual Pet Parade. Pet entry is free with prizes awarded including Best Dressed, Most Congenial and Cutest. A blessing of the pets follows and all participants will receive a St. Francis medal and treat bag. (Costumes are encouraged and pets must remain leashed.)
