New TSA equipment installed at Jackson airport

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Officials with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) announced that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is in the process of installing new state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) scanners at the East and West checkpoints at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN).

Officials said the scanners will improve overall security screening while providing enhanced explosives detection capabilities.

Will Southwest offer flights from Jackson to Nashville?

The first two CT units were recently installed at JAN’s West checkpoint, with an additional unit set to be installed beginning Monday at the East checkpoint. These upgrades in technology offer TSA officers 3-D imaging of carry-on luggage that can be rotated and viewed from all angles, ensuring a more thorough analysis of bags.

The Jackson airport is the first airport in Mississippi to implement this new high-tech machinery.

“TSA remains committed to installing technology that enhances security and improves the screening experience,” said Kim Jackson, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Mississippi. “This CT technology substantially improves our threat detection capability at the checkpoint.”
