College freshman have mixed emotions about their university requiring them to live on campus.
There are a few possible exceptions to this such as if the student resides with a guardian within 50 miles, if the student is married, has children, and several more regulations. Freshman Gabrielle Cox explained that she wasn’t aware of these exemptions which led her to pay for campus housing. Now the student is trying to live off campus in the spring semester but has the possibility of paying a fee due to not advising housing in the beginning of the fall semester. That fee could range to more than $2,000.
“I don’t want to pay a fine to stay in my own house,” said Cox.
The student completed an “appeal to cancellation fee” to try to avoid the fee and provide reasons why she doesn’t believe she should pay to stay in the dorm in the spring semester. Although other students said living on campus helps freshman adjust to the college lifestyle. Gabrielle faces more burdens.
“If I lived at home, I would have been able to save more money throughout the school year and not spend all of my scholarships and money I got for graduation,” said Cox.
