Mississippi’s Public Art Scene Flourishes with Upcoming Sculpture Exhibitions

Mississippi’s commitment to public art continues to thrive as two prominent programs—the Yokna Sculpture Trail in Oxford and the Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art’s (HAPA) Sculpture Competition—announce calls for artist submissions for their upcoming exhibitions spanning 2025 to 2027. These initiatives offer regional and national artists platforms to showcase their work, enriching local communities and enhancing cultural tourism.

Yokna Sculpture Trail

A collaborative effort between the City of Oxford, the University of Mississippi, and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, the Yokna Sculpture Trail features a rotating exhibit of large-scale sculptures displayed across four distinct locations: Pat Lamar Park, the Powerhouse Sculpture Garden, the University of Mississippi Sculpture Park, and the University of Mississippi Museum. The trail provides residents and visitors with access to diverse artistic expressions set against Oxford’s scenic landscapes. The trail rotates a portion of the trail each year creatin g an ever changing experience.
