Two JPS high schools move to virtual learning due to heating issues

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Officials with the Jackson Public School District (JPS) announced Forest Hill and Jim Hill high schools will temporarily shift to virtual learning on Thursday, January 9 due to the failure of heating systems.

JPS students from Wilkins Elementary and Shirley Elementary Schools will return to in-person learning at alternate locations while the district continues to restore heat at the impacted schools.

Wilkins Elementary students and staff will report to New Horizon Church, located at 1750 Bobby Rush Boulevard (formerly Ellis Avenue). Shirley Elementary students and staff will report to the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Jackson State University (JSU).

Buses will resume their regular schedules, transporting students between home, school, and each alternate location. JPS officials said breakfast and lunch will be served at JSU and New Horizon by JPS Child Nutrition’s team.
