Jackson suing two international automakers, citing ‘car theft crisis’

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Two international auto manufacturers are facing a new lawsuit for allegedly putting “profit over safety,” and causing a “car theft crisis” in the capital city.

The city of Jackson filed a complaint in February against Kia America Inc., Kia Corporation, Hyundai Motor Company, and Hyundai Motor America, for failing to install anti-theft technology on their vehicles for years – a decision attorneys argue has increased crime and threatened public safety.

“Kia and Hyundai’s unlawful and reckless actions have caused a car theft crisis. In 2023, at least 300 Kia and Hyundai vehicles were stolen in Jackson alone,” the suit states. “Unfortunately, that trend continued into 2024, and does not appear to be slowing down in 2025.”…
