In recognition of Women’s History Month S.T.A.N.D. honors Mississippi stateswomen

JANS – On March 11, 2025, S.T.A.N.D. (Sisters Taking Action and Nurturing Decision-making) held its Ninth Annual Legislative Luncheon at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. As expressed by program moderator, Laverne Gentry, PhD, women-led organizations come together during Women’s History Month to celebrate Mississippi female lawmakers.

Prayer was offered by Reverend Luigia Hodge, New Jerusalem Church, and remarks were given by Demetria White, American Association of University Women, MS.

Attendees received a double serving of dessert with the showing of a clip from “In Spite of It All,” a documentary on the life of Dr. Ollye Brown Shirley, educator extraordinaire produced by Wilma Clopton, PhD, founder, Negro in Mississippi Historical Society (NMHS) Film Productions…
