Council to consider JXN Water rate hike next month

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson city leaders will make it known next month whether they support a proposed 24 percent increase in rates for JXN Water.

According to court documents, on April 8, the City Council will consider a request from Interim Third-Party Manager Ted Henifin to raise rates to help shore up the utility’s financing as federal flexible funds run dry.

The vote will be largely symbolic. Under terms of the court order taking over Jackson’s water system, Henifin can raise the rates without council support if it has been more than a year since the last increase occurred. The last time rates were increased was in March 2024…
