Hinds County inspects, repairs tornado sirens

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – To prepare for more severe weather, Hinds County is busy updating and repairing tornado sirens.

During the routine first of the month drill, the county discovered multiple sirens were not working properly. The sirens were located in downtown Jackson, north Jackson and Utica.

Since April 1, the sirens have undergone inspection and were repaired. County leaders are discussing adding more sirens and emergency resources throughout the county.

“The weather’s so unpredictable. And as I stated earlier, the best way I can say it is the weather has now gotten meaner. And the people that live in the rural area of Hinds County, they feel as if they’re left out a lot of times. So, we want to make sure that they know that we’re putting additional sirens in the rural area. You know, we’ll have another fire station in the rural area of Hinds County.
