Jackson, Miss. – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across central Mississippi Friday afternoon, bringing damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail that could impact Jackson, Yazoo City, and surrounding areas through 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 211 is in effect for 33 counties, including Hinds, Madison, Rankin, Leflore, and Oktibbeha. The watch was issued at 12:10 p.m. CDT and covers much of central and western Mississippi through this evening.
The main threats include isolated wind damage, hail, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Areas such as Vicksburg, Starkville, and Greenville could see fast-moving storms capable of downing trees and power lines.
