‘Clearly some rubber stamping’; State auditor’s report alleges MSDH doled out $850k to nonprofits without monitoring how money was spent

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – State Auditor Shad White claims hundreds of thousands of federal tax dollars went to nonprofit organizations without any records on how those organizations spent the money and a state agency — the Mississippi State Department of Health — helped them do it.

White’s team of auditors looked at federal grant money going toward HIV testing and prevention in the state, part of a health department goal to decrease HIV infections by 75 percent by this year.

White doubts that will happen now…
