South Carolina man arrested after Rankin County deputies find suspected cocaine

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A South Carolina man was arrested after Rankin County deputies said they found 20 kilos of suspected cocaine.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 49 near Highway 80 in Pearl just after 1:15 a.m. on June 22. The deputy said a white Chevrolet SUV was failing to maintain a single lane of travel.

While speaking to the driver, 42-year-old John Jermaine Norman, the deputy began to suspect his involvement in criminal activity. Burnell said Norman consented to a search of the vehicle, and the drugs were found in a compartment.

Norman was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance and transported to the Rankin County Detention Center where remains on without bond until his initial appearance.
