JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Amid ongoing debates on whether to increase Jackson’s water rates, a data analysis shows that the capital city’s water and sewage rates are already among the highest in the metro.
JXN Water officials said the average residential customer will see an $8.00 to $9.00 monthly increase on their water bills if U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate approves proposed rate changes. They assert that proposed rate hikes are needed to get the current water system out of debt. According to an analysis of water systems across the Jackson metro, many water bills are less than half of what the current Jacksonian has to pay.

Clinton’s water system has higher base rates for water usage than Jackson’s. However, usage fees associated with the JXN Water system increase overall costs for Jackson’s residents.
