Equine nonprofits continue to struggle over four horses seized in Madison County

A struggle between two horse rescue nonprofits will return to court Monday in Madison County.

The gridlock between Mississippi Horses and Rocking R Ranch and Rescue started when Rocking R sent three horses and a pony to a foster home that had had previous animals seized for neglect. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department seized the horses and pony for probable cause of neglect after deputies responded to complaints that they were malnourished, and turned them over to Mississippi Horses.

Rocking R has taken Mississippi Horses to court three times prior to this to try to regain custody of the four animals, alleging that giving custody of them to Mississippi Horses is theft because they had a contract with the foster home. Courts have ruled in favor of Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker’s decision to appoint Mississippi Horses to care for them all three times…
