JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Mostly sunny and dry weather might give way to some isolated, scattered showers and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon. We’re only looking at a 20% chance at this point. Additionally, after a brief period of tolerable humidity, the heat index is going to kick back in. So, for the week ahead, expect the heat stress conditions to be on the rise, in addition to the shower and thunderstorm activity, getting up to 40 to 50%. These will be mainly afternoon and early evening events.
In the tropics, we are watching Tropical Storm Chantal off the southeast coast of the United States. The center of Chantal is expected to move across the coast of South Carolina overnight. Some strengthening is expected as it reaches the coast, but it will rapidly weaken after landfall. 2 to 4 inches of rain, maybe 6 inches in some areas of South and North Carolina, is expected with this tropical storm…
