Mayor Horhn focuses on Jackson’s budget during first council meeting

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Mayor John Horhn attended his first City Council meeting as mayor on Tuesday.

Horhn made it clear that public safety is at the top of his agenda, even with financial constraints. He said the next step is to identify where adjustments can be made to financially support those priorities.

Who are the new leaders of the Jackson City Council?

Much of the discussion centered around the current budget, or the lack thereof. Despite the limited money available, Horhn expressed that the cities fire and police departments are top funding priority. This funding would address current issues, equipment investment and labor expansion.

“The goal is to try and find money. If we have to move some things around, we’ll do that, but we have got to beef up our police department in terms of manpower, equipment and resources. And likewise with our fire department. We have to make sure that there is parody between the police and fire department in terms of pay,” the mayor said…
