Jackson coffee shop opens to teach youth real-life skills

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A new coffee shop opened on Saturday in South Jackson.

The Riverside Coffeehouse will be a place for the youth to meet with one another, and it will also be a safe space for members of the community to come together and enjoy coffee.

Vilas Annavarapu, a cofounder of Riverside Coffeehouse, said the business will allow young people to learn and utilize real life skills.

“We came up with the idea together. Thought about what we wanted to create in South Jackson. And today’s our grand opening. So, we’re showcasing all the coffee making skills we’ve learned over the years, but importantly, teaching young people how to start a business, how to apply skills like English and math in the real world to create something positive for the community,” he said…
