Two new historical markers being dedicated July 17 will help tell more of the Clinton Massacre story, which is already commemorated on the site with a Mississippi Freedom Trail marker at 300 Northside Drive.
A marker focusing on the Moss Hill Plantation will offer details about the location of an 1875 political rally where racial violence broke out, leaving seven people dead and leading to the massacre of as many as fifty others.
The other new marker looks at the ultimate result of the massacre—the suppression of the Black Republican vote, white Democrats regaining control of the Mississippi Legislature and, effectively, the end of Reconstruction in the state…
