JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – We traveled to the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson to learn more about the Poor People’s Corporation.
“The Poor People’s Corporation was sort of the precursor to the Poor People’s Campaign, and the Poor People’s Corporation tried to provide both technical and financial assistance to worker owned corporations throughout the state,” explained Kathryne Etre, director of conservation at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH).
The reason they were losing their jobs is because they were probably primarily African-Americans. They registered to vote, and then all of a sudden found out they were no longer sharecroppers…
