JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Blight may be a persistent problem, but Mississippi laws and organizations provide a blueprint for how to address it.
Unsightly roads, homes or businesses are not just in Jackson. The various parts of Mississippi that acknowledge similar issues show that it is a statewide problem. Though it may seem that there is little guidance or resources available to address these issues, state law and private entities have attempted to do so.
During the 2025 legislative session, the state passed laws to create tax incentives to improve blighted properties. Mississippi House Bill 1201 created a program that provides an income tax rebate and credit program for private groups who develop delapidated properties.
