Southern U.S. City Prepares for 120°F Heat Index Monday — See Where It’s Hitting Hardest

Jackson, Mississippi – A swath of the Deep South is bracing for dangerous heat Monday, with parts of Mississippi facing heat index values as high as 120°F — enough to trigger Level 3 heat stress alerts across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, actual air temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and low 100s, but the combination of humidity and stagnant air will make it feel significantly hotter. A Significant Heat Risk (Level 3) has been issued for areas including Jackson, Vicksburg, Brookhaven, Yazoo City, and Greenville.

Heat stroke will be increasingly likely during outdoor activity in these areas, especially during the peak afternoon hours. In eastern Mississippi — including Philadelphia, Meridian, and Columbus — a Level 2 Elevated Risk is in place, with heat indices between 105°F and 110°F and a high chance of heat exhaustion…
