TRIO program at Hinds Community College receives $1.7 million

UTICA, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds Community College (HCC) was awarded a U.S. Department of Education TRIO Student Support Services grant of $1.7 million.

According to officials, the funds will be used to improve college retention and graduation rates among low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities. Hinds’ TRIO program is based on the Utica campus.

Officials said the TRIO Student Support Services includes academic tutoring, financial aid, scholarship guidance, career exploration, personal and academic counseling and mentoring.

“This grant allows the Utica Campus of Hinds Community College to deepen our commitment to ensuring that all students — regardless of background — can thrive academically and personally,” said Program Director Pamela Williams. “Student Support Services helps level the playing field and equips our students with the tools and confidence to graduate and lead.”
