Jackson, Mississippi Heat Advisory: Dangerous 109° Heat Index Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Jackson, Miss. – Dangerous heat will grip much of Mississippi on Thursday, with temperatures and humidity combining for heat index values reaching up to 109 degrees. The National Weather Service warns that the extreme conditions could pose serious health risks, particularly for those spending prolonged time outdoors.

According to the NWS in Jackson, the heat advisory covers most of central and southern Mississippi, along with parts of southeast Arkansas and northeast Louisiana. The alert remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, when the heat index will peak during the afternoon hours. Cities including Jackson, Greenville, Vicksburg, Hattiesburg, and Natchez are all within the advisory zone.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening, wear light and loose-fitting clothing, and drink plenty of water. Employers should provide shaded rest breaks for outdoor workers, and neighbors are encouraged to check on elderly or vulnerable individuals.
