HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – With the Hinds County Detention Center nearing capacity, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors said progress is being made on the new facility.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said more than 40% of Phase 1 has been completed. The new facility is located off of McDowell Road. Crews are preparing to enter Phase 2 of the project.

“Phase 2 will incorporate the majority of the building for the new facility. The majority of the, in other words, for the new facility. So, it’s going to be the most costly part. And we’re trying to, we’re working with our financial advisor. We’re also working with our architects and working with other contractors to try to make sure that we get the best price,” said Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham, District 1.
