JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Department of Veterans Affairs will realign an additional $800 million this fiscal year as part of the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance program.
According to officials, the extra funds will help support a variety of improvement projects at VA healthcare facilities nationwide, including G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson.
Officials said the following upgrades will be made:
- Repair Chilled Water & Steam Distribution – Replacing deteriorated piping and increasing flow capacity throughout the hospital.
- Renovate Emergency Department (ED) – Renovating 9,500 square feet to modernize layout and equipment. Enhances patient throughput and emergency readiness.
- Renovate Primary Care (PC) Blue Clinic for Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) – Complete overhaul of the PC Blue Clinic to implement the PACT model and expand Women’s Health services
- Repurpose Primary Care Space for ED Expansion – Converting 4,038 square feet to expand the ED. Increases patient capacity and improves emergency care flow
- Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) Infrastructure Upgrade – Establishing the main data center, upgrading telephone rooms, and installing CAT 6a data cabling. This supports the EHRM program.
- Renovate Radiology – ED Imaging Area – Renovating 1,920 square feet in the first-floor Radiology Department for ED use. Improves immediate access to imaging for emergency patients.
- Renovate Pathology & Laboratory Medicine – Full renovation of 14,700 square feet in the basement for lab services. Improves diagnostic capabilities and workflow efficiency.
- Renovate Nutrition & Food Service Kitchen – Renovating 12,400 square feet of kitchen space, including interim facilities and storage.
- Renovate Inpatient Ward 2A – Fully renovated 20,000 square feet to repurpose the ward for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service. Expands rehabilitation capacity and modernizes treatment areas.
