Memo alleges nurse refused Narcan to Mississippi detainee who later died at jail

A detainee at a Mississippi prison may have died after a nurse practitioner refused to administer Narcan following a drug overdose, according to an internal memo at the Hind’s County Sheriff’s Department.

WLBT News in Jackson reports that a July 31 memo from the sheriff’s department details an incident on July 9, 2025, where nine detainees showed symptoms of “stimulant or opioid toxicity.” The memo alleges a nurse on duty refused to provide Narcan to one of these individuals, identified only as “Clincy,” who later died.
