Sheriff on misdemeanor holding facility: ‘It’s not going to happen’

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones says a downtown holding facility will not come to fruition, nearly four years after his predecessor announced the plans with great fanfare.

In 2021, interim Sheriff Marshand Crisler and Jackson Police Chief James Davis announced plans to reopen the downtown Jackson jail as a temporary holding facility for misdemeanor offenders.
