Jackson, MS Heavy Rain Threat: Flooding Possible With 3–4 Inches Through the Weekend

Jackson, Miss. – Heavy rain will return to much of Mississippi late this week, bringing the risk of flooding in several communities from Thursday night through Saturday morning. Some locations could see up to 4 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.

The weather service said most areas can expect 1 to 3 inches of rain, but heavier pockets of downpours could quickly overwhelm low-lying roads and creeks. Flash flooding is possible in central and western counties, including Yazoo, Vicksburg, and Brookhaven, as moisture builds late Thursday night and continues into the weekend.

Drivers should prepare for slower travel on Interstate 20 and Highway 49, where ponding on roads is likely during periods of heavy rain. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid driving through flooded intersections and to keep phones charged in case of power outages…
