Fire at vacant Jackson school under investigation

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson firefighters responded to a fire at a vacant school on September 3, 2025.

The fire occurred at Brown Elementary School on Ash Street.

Driver dies in crash on I-55 in Holmes County

Division Fire Chief Charles Felton said when firefighters arrived, they saw the building was boarded up. They removed the boards and determined the fire was confined to a classroom.

“We’ve had a problem with squatters in this area. We’ve had several fires at this location in the past, and we determined that these fires are intentionally set,” said Felton. “However, we don’t know the motive.”…
