JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Healthcare professionals, community leaders and residents came together in Jackson for a summit focused on reducing firearms and related violence.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) Mississippi Center for Violence Research and community partners hosted the summit at the Jackson Convention Complex, aiming to strike dialogue and build partnerships across the metro area. The summit brought together voices from across the community.
“So many kids who are out here just committing violence and crimes every single day. But instead of coming together and stepping up to take their place and to be different and to be set apart from the world. See, we have a lot of people who are just drawn by their own intrusive thoughts, and there’s not a way to be nowadays. So, I just look at it like we all can come together as one and be a whole for Jackson and make the place better,” said Jawan White, a Provine High School student…
