Jackson Man Taken Into Custody After Rifle Incident at Newton Store

A Jackson man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after police say he was found with a rifle inside a store in Newton.

Newton Police Chief McKenzie Patrick said officers responded around 4:10 p.m. after Newton County E-911 received a call about an individual carrying a rifle. Police and deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department entered the store and began clearing the building.
