City official suggests options for repairing major water leaks at Jackson Zoo

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A major exhibit at the Jackson Zoological Park could be temporarily taken offline, as the city figures out how to address a major water leak there.

During budget deliberations on Wednesday, interim Chief Administrative Officer Pieter Teeuwissen recommended taking the chimpanzee exhibit offline, so the moat could be drained, and the water leak there could be repaired.

“We have a moat around our monkeys. All our moats at the zoo are natural bottom moats. Erosion has occurred, the moat has widened, evaporation occurs, the water comes out of the widened moat… So, we just leave a fire hydrant running to fill the moat.”…
