RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Ridgeland held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 11, 2025, for its newest fire station and training center.
Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee, Fire Chief Jonathan Posey, members of the Board of Aldermen, local officials, firefighters, first responders and community leaders gathered at the site to celebrate the start of construction. Officials said the event took on added meaning as it coincided with the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, honoring the courage and sacrifice of firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, and all first responders.
“This fire station is more than brick, steel, and mortar—it is a house of service,” said McGee. “On behalf of the City of Ridgeland, I want to thank MCEDA and the State of Mississippi for supporting the AWS Data Center project. Their investment not only strengthens our economic future but also makes critical infrastructure improvements like this new fire station possible—without placing any additional tax burden on our existing residents and businesses.”
The funding for the new station and training center comes directly from the ad valorem revenue generated by AWS’s investment, ensuring that vital infrastructure improvements are built at no additional cost to local taxpayers.
