JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson hosted the Suicide Prevent Summit for veterans and their loved ones. The event was held at the Mississippi e-Center on Friday.
“We’re excited to have our first annual Suicide Prevention Summit. And our goal is for the VA to partner with community agencies because suicide is everybody’s business. Veterans just don’t come to the VA. They go to the church. They go to other community organizations. So, we want to make sure that we’re working together to provide holistic care to others,” said Dr. Timothy Neyland, PhD, LCSW, Mental Health Supervisor, G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center.

The summit welcomed veterans, family members, caregivers and community partners. Statewide organizations, including the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH), attended the event to provide additional resources for attendees.
Organizers plan to continue hosting the summit annually for the public.
