Jackson man sentenced after police chase in Rankin County

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Jackson man was convicted in Rankin County for felony evasion as a habitual offender.

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Bubba Bramlett announced that Justin Andre Sterling, 31, was sentenced to serve 10 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).

On November 24, 2024, Richland police received information that a vehicle involved in an armed carjacking had entered the city limits on Highway 49 South. An officer located the SUV, notified dispatch and maintained surveillance until additional officers could assist in stopping the vehicle.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, investigators said Sterling refused to comply and fled at high speed. They said he struck another driver’s vehicle before making a U-turn and continued to evade police on Highway 49 North.

Officers were able to bring the chase to a safe end and arrested Sterling.
